Nei-men is located in the northeastern region of Kaohsiung County and is one of the townships at the border of Kaohsiung County and Tainan County. Zuo-jhen Township and Long-Ci Township of Tainan County are to its west, Nan-hua Township of Tainan County and Shan-lin Township of Kaohsiung County are to its north, Cishan Township of Kaohsiung County is by its east, and Tian-Liao Township of Kaohsiung County is to its south. Nei-men Township is a low-altitude basin amidst the mountains. It has an area of 95.6624 square kilometers. And it is within an hour drive from Kaohsiung City via Freeway No. 10. towards Cijin.

Nei-men was called Luohan-men in the old days and was translated from how Siraya and Taburian Pingpu people called the local Rohan. Later Chinese people started flooding in to cultivate the land. Er-ren Creek and Nan-zi-sian Creek further divided up Luohan-men into Luohan Wai-men District (east region of Nei-men + Cishan) and Luohan Nei-men District (today's Nei-men). Thus, Luohan Nei-men District was renamed Nei-men in 1953.

Nei-men is an area with various kinds of culture. The area has distinctive characteristics in terms of both its religion and customs. Along with the beautiful scenery in this area, Nei-men is a birthplace of numerous successful figures. In Yung-Li 20 of the Ming Dynasty, Grand Secretariat Shen Guang-Wen  opened a school here and gave lectures along with a group of scholars. His pioneering in education development was even three years earlier than Taiwan's First School in Tainan City.

Even though Nei-men has poor soil quality, the hardworking and practical Nei-men people had managed to choose the appropriate agricultural products that are suitable to the land, such as Wan-neng potatoes, Flamingo flower, longan, guava, and pineapple, which still gained Nei-men Township its fame in excellent agricultural products. On the other side, due to its unique terrain, Nei-men Township is full of amazing natural scenery like the Misty Yan-men, which used to be one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Taiyang, Seven Star Towers, 308 Highland, and many other awe-inspiring and magical wonders.
